The toolkit
Free walking pad tools
Two small, fast tools for the questions every pad walker asks: how many calories did that really burn, and how do I do 12-3-30 on a pad that only tilts to 5 percent?
Walking pad calories calculator
Enter your speed, incline, minutes and weight. The calculator returns calories from the ACSM walking metabolic equation, your intensity in METs, an estimate of steps and distance from your height, and a comparison at 2, 2.5, 3 and 3.5 mph. It prints the equation with your numbers in it and says plainly where the estimate is weak.
12-3-30 timer
A 30-minute countdown with optional beeps every five minutes and a printable session card. Because most walking pads top out well below a 12 percent incline, the timer also computes a flat-pad equivalent for your pad: the same 3 mph for longer, or the same 30 minutes at a faster pace, matched on estimated calories with the same equation.
What the tools will not do
They estimate; they do not measure. No calculator knows your fitness, your shoes, whether your hands rest on the desk or how your pad reads its own speed. Treat the numbers as a fair guide for comparing one session with another, not as a promise about your weight. The walking pad calories guide explains the equation and its limits in plain words.
Coming next
A steps-to-miles converter, a speed converter (mph, km/h and minutes per mile) and a weekly desk-miles planner are on the list. Join the early-access list below and we will tell you when the PadStride app, Android first, and new tools land.
